Antique Art Nouveau 18K Old Mine Cut Aquamarine Repoussé Iris Brooch
An exceptional original Art Nouveau brooch, handcrafted in repoussé and chased 18 karat yellow gold, circa 1895–1910, during the height of the Art Nouveau movement. Inspired by nature and a deliberate departure from the rigid symmetry of the Victorian era, Art Nouveau jewelry is celebrated for its flowing organic forms, stylized flowers, leaves, vines, and graceful “whiplash” curves. Rather than emphasizing geometric precision, the master jewelers of the period sought to capture the beauty and movement of the natural world, transforming precious metal into wearable works of art.
This remarkable brooch depicts a stylized iris, one of the most iconic floral motifs of the Art Nouveau period. The sculptural design has been meticulously formed in repoussé from sheet gold and refined by hand with chasing, creating richly textured leaves, elegant flowing tendrils, and remarkable depth and movement. At its center rests one of the deepest blue natural round-cut aquamarines we have ever encountered. Its extraordinary, richly saturated color provides a breathtaking focal point, beautifully contrasting with the warm glow of the finely hand-finished yellow gold.
Original Art Nouveau jewels of this quality and authenticity have become increasingly scarce over the past century, making them highly desirable to discerning collectors who appreciate exceptional craftsmanship, artistic design, and historical significance.
